P4P or Pay for Performance was invented by Overture, now known as Yahoo after being acquired by Yahoo. Overture saw that the Internet was quick becoming the easiest and most convenient way to shop, and advertising was going to peak due to the sheer number of businesses in the arena.

To get a person to go to a site than others, you need to be high visible. Providing advertisements that can direct consumers and potential customers to your site would allow them to increase traffic and sales. Yahoo provides a service that can place an advertisement for a site or company on their sites that can be displayed when certain keywords are entered.

Yahoo offers an opportunity for any business to increase their traffic by using their services. With more people aware of your site, there would be more traffic and visitors to your site who would have the opportunity to view your pages and your products. Even with a small percentage of successful sales, with a high volume of traffic, this could be a substantial amount for your business.

Getting a consistent substantial stream of website visitors is the goal of every company. Many methods are designed and used to ensure that there are more people to upsell and be aware of the existence of said product or service. Website visitors are for sure the life blood of your internet based business.

Yahoo/Overture uses the same principle as Google's Adwords. Both of them use keyword and keyword phrase searches to determine which ads will be shown for a search. When a person types a keyword or keyword phrase to search for something, search engines return the results on a page. Then, on the right side of the page, you'll see selected ads that have paid for ads to be shown on certain searched keywords and keyword phrases.

For example, let's say you have a car parts retail/wholesale site. You choose keywords that can cause or trigger your ads to show on the page when a keyword is searched. When a search engine user types Honda Accord, your ad may appear if you have designated it as one of your keywords. You do not need to full optimize your site with search engine optimization methods and techniques.

While some work hard to make their site one of the top ranking sites for keyword search, you have the opportunity to be at the top of the list or at least the first page of a search result, which increases your chances of being clicked. With that, you drive traffic and website visitors to your site much faster.

However, you will have to spend some money when using this service. There are different ways that Yahoo/Overture will charge you. It can be in the number of keywords or keyword phrases your ad uses or the number of times your ad is clicked. Others offer many other services, such as having your ad appear not only on search engine pages, but also on some third-party sites.

Third-party sites allow ads with the same theme or niche as theirs. With more areas where your ad is shown, you increase the chances that people will learn about your site or product. With more website visitors, you increase your site sales, making your investment with your ads smart.

With so much competition in internet based business, it is necessary to take a big leap ahead of the pack by advertising. A good place to start is Yahoo/Overture. Many have used their services and have reaped the rewards of this decision. It is a marketing strategy that will increase your website visitors and increase your sales which will lead to profit.

It takes money to make money. While there are some methods that are low cost or free, using a marketing service like the one offered by Yahoo/Overture will provide quicker results and on a larger scale. Many companies have learned this the hard way, don't count on them.
