General Motors (GM) has recently issued a recall for approximately 40,000 pickup trucks due to a fire risk caused by an engine block heater cord. The recall affects specific 2019-2020 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500 trucks.
The issue stems from the engine block heaters, which are intended to warm up the engine oil during cold starts. However, over time, the cord for these heaters can become damaged or worn, leading to a fire risk. GM became aware of the potential danger after multiple customers reported engine fires due to the damaged engine block heater cord.
GM is urging affected customers to bring in their vehicles for a free of charge repair. The company also recommends that customers park their vehicles outside and refrain from using the engine block heater until the repair is completed. Additionally, customers are advised to disconnect the engine block heater cord from the outlet before parking their vehicles.
This recall comes amid a series of recent GM recalls, including one involving over a million vehicles due to an issue with airbag deployment and another involving approximately 2.7 million vehicles due to faulty fuel pumps.
While recalls may pose an inconvenience to buyers, it is vital to take the necessary measures to ensure that the vehicles are reliable and safe. If you are experiencing any problems with a 2019-2020 GMC Sierra 1500 or Chevrolet Silverado 1500, it is critical to be aware of this recall and to contact a licensed GM dealership to get it fixed.
